Typically, Windows has errors with special codes – 0x800f081e being one of the last. This code stands for CBS_E_NOT_APPLICABLE – which means that a particular "package" (update) is considered "not applicable" to the system.
In short, this error is due to the fact that your system has a setting or package that is not compatible with the installed update. In the case of Windows 10 Update 1803, it is usually Windows Media Player.
cause
Eventually, either your system has installed Windows Media Player, or the system tries to install a new version of it on the system. The new updated version * no * may be compatible with your base system.
To resolve this issue, you need to remove Windows Media Player from your current system and make sure that it will not be installed either by the new update. To do this, you must first remove the app from your "Add or Remove Programs" feature in Windows, and then make sure that there are no fraudulent settings in the system.
Solution
1. Remove Windows Media Player
The first step is to remove WMP from your current Windows 10 system.
This can be done by following these steps:
- Press the "Windows" + "R" keys on your keyboard ("Run" dialog box)
- gender and tap
- Expand "Multimedia Features" in the tree list
- Email Windows Media Player
- Click "Yes" if an alarm box appears
- Restart your PC
After restarting, you will need to determine whether the system will be able to apply the update or not. This may take some time (Windows 10 has to re-download each new update each time it is created).
In the meantime, you need to perform maintenance on your system:
2. Run the "Disk Cleanup" tool
The next step is to remove all the damaged or corrupted items that can cause problems for your PC. This can be done using a number of essentials in Windows 10 itself:
- Click on the "search" box at the bottom left of the taskbar (press the Windows + S keys on your keyboard if you don't have one)
- Write "Disk Cleanup"
- Click on the icon that shows
- Select "Erase System Files"
- Let it browse your system
- Delete all junk files you find
Once you have done this, you will also need to use the "SFC" (System File Checker) application from the CMD:
- In the "search" box (taskbar at the bottom left), press "command"
- When loading "Command Prompt", right-click and select "Run as administrator"
- In the CMD box, press "sfc/skannow" and press Enter
- Let the system scan your files
- Once you are done, restart your system
After restarting, this should allow your system to download the latest version of the 1803 update – it should install correctly if you remove the Windows Media Player reference from the installed applications on your system.
