Due to its popularity, Facebook is ready for hackers. This makes it important to have a secure password, but it also means enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) for that extra layer of security. This extra level of security is important, but if you can’t access 2FA, fear not, because it’s not impossible to get back into your account. Here’s how to log into Facebook if you don’t have access to the 2FA code generator.
Send code by SMS
One of the easiest two-factor authentication methods is to use a code generator app like Authy. These applications provide a random set of six-digit codes that allow access to hundreds or even thousands of websites. This is one of the easiest ways to enable two-factor authentication (2FA), but it requires you to have access to your phone or tablet.
What if you lose your phone and can’t access your code generator app? The best thing to do is to start the two-factor authentication process, and when you get to the screen asking for the six-digit code, click on “Do you want another way to authenticate?” »
When you do, you can choose another option like “Send me a login code” and then wait for the code to arrive. Alternatively, you can also allow Facebook to call you at one of the numbers listed on your profile. This is a good reminder to have an emergency phone number listed on your profile.
Use authorized devices
One of the best ways to access a Facebook account is through an authorized device, which means you no longer need to use two-factor authentication on that device. So if you’ve logged in on another device in the past, you should be able to log back into your Facebook on that device without having to use the code generator.
If you find yourself in a scenario where you can’t access your code generator, this is a great way to log into your account. If you have a device, app, or browser that you haven’t used to log into Facebook in a while, try it out and make sure you select the “Save Browser” option to stay logged in. In the future.
Obviously, if you’ve never logged into a device before and have two-factor authentication enabled, you won’t be able to log into that device without 2FA or phone authentication.
Get recovery codes (desktop)
When setting up two-factor authentication, you have the option to receive a set of recovery codes. These recovery codes can be an invaluable way to access your account if you are unable to use your code generator. To set up redemption codes:
1. Click the dropdown arrow at the top right of Facebook and select Settings and privacy > Settings.
2. Select Security and connectivityand then locate the partition Two-factor authentication and click Use two-factor authentication. If you already set up two factor, you will need to use your own code generator if you are preparing redeem codes for the first time. If you haven’t set up 2FA, all you have to do is enter your password.
3. Next to recovery codesat the bottom of the screen, tap settingsthen on Get the codes. If you have already configured the icons, tap Manage > View Icons. The important thing is that you copy, screenshot or write down the 10 icons that appear. Each code can only be used once, then it can be redeemed by following the same steps and clicking Get new codes.
When you lose your code generator, these recovery codes allow you to quickly and securely regain access to your account.
Choose Trusted Contacts
If you’ve lost access to your Facebook account and can’t log in using two-factor authentication, you can set up a list of trusted contacts who will send you a login code via a link.
If you’re using Facebook on your computer, click the drop-down menu in the upper right corner of Facebook Facebook > Settings and privacy > Settings > Security and login.

Then scroll down to ” Choose 3-5 friends to reach out to if you get stuckThen select your trusted contacts list.
What to do if your Facebook account has been hacked
When you find out your account has been hacked or your Facebook account has been hacked, start with facebook.com/hacked. This is where you can describe your problem or select the option to not see your problem listed. Whichever option you choose, each includes different steps to secure your account.
This step is ideal for people who still have access to their account and are more concerned about seeing messages or other red flags that someone has accessed your account without permission.
There is no access due to 2FA
If you can’t log in because the hacker has enabled two-factor authentication (2FA) to block you, Facebook will direct you to one of its security pages. The “Security Checks Prevent Login” page is Available here And it’s the place to start if you can’t sign in because of security checks like 2FA.
Add a description of the problem with an optional screenshot to help explain exactly what your problem is and wait for Facebook to respond. Unfortunately, Facebook says it won’t respond to all requests, so it shouldn’t be your only effort to regain access to your account.
If you are left waiting for a response, you can send the same email repeatedly until you receive a response. Refer to the template below or feel free to copy this paragraph to use in your email for your convenience.

Verify your identity
Finding out that your Facebook account has been hacked can be devastating. There are many ways to hack, so let’s look at some common examples and how to do it.
Let’s start with a scenario where a hacker changes your email address and phone number and sets up two-factor authentication.
1. Start by adding another email to your account by checking one of your existing Facebook logins or browser apps. Click or tap on “I forgot my password,” followed by the option to not access it. Once you do that, you can add another email and provide identification.
If the above step didn’t work because you’re already signed out, try logging back into your account. When it asks for a 2FA code, click “I don’t have my phone,” then “Contact Us” and add the same email you used above, which, again, is an email not associated with your Facebook account.
2. Submit your ID and wait for a response. Facebook is usually very fast and should send a code to your secondary email address so that you can log in by changing your password. Don’t click on the link, just copy and paste the password to be able to log in again.
3. This is where you can still get by with two-factor authentication (2FA). In this case, it is suggested that you use a browser on your phone and resubmit your ID using the same process as above. While you’re re-verifying your identity, you’ll be able to log in with your temporary password by copying and pasting.
It’s important to note that many of the claims of not accepting IDs is a fairly typical response from Facebook. If this happens, the recommendation is to try continuously until the government-approved type of identification (best driver’s license) is accepted. Make sure all 4 corners of the ID are visible without any shadows etc. Note that this is an artificially intelligent process, so there are no humans actually looking at the identifiers that have been sent. This could explain the multiple downloads.

It’s always scary to lose access to personal accounts such as email or Facebook. Because these platforms are very personal, not having access to them may lead you to believe that you have been hacked or that your identity has been stolen.
